Laura & Joe | A Sunflower filled English Country Barn Wedding at Chilley Barn, Hailsham

Updated: Jun 17, 2020

I am so far behind on my blog posts, that on this wet winters day, I am taking you all the way back to a hot summers day from July last year!

Laura and Joe choose the most lovely spot for their English barn wedding - Chilley Farm Barn run by the brilliant Angie. One of the big benefits of a barn wedding is that you get to really make your day your own and to help Laura and Joe create their vision, they brought on board Emma from Raise the Roof Marquees, who not only provided their fab marquee but also acted as the event coordinator - if your planning a barn wedding having someone like Emma on the team is such a great idea - it means you get to enjoy your day whilst someone completely impartial keeps things running smoothly in the background.

I started the day with Laura at home, surrounded by her bridal party, her mum, Elaine and a few prosecco's in personalised flutes. The ladies hair and make up was created by artists Emily and Gemma, found via Beauty Call UK. Laura is also a massive fan of supporting local businesses and her pre-day pampering such as nails, eyebrows and all the girls tans, were created by Perfections in Little Common. I love a detail so also took this time to capture Laura's super sophisticated dress from Qiana Bridal and as a massive Harry Potter fan, I just loved her the personalisation of her Carvela, Kurt Geiger shoes.

Laura and the girls were driven to the farm in style by BlueSky Weddings and VWBrides, and I made sure to capture some pictures of the newly married couple with the brilliant cars after the ceremony too. The flowers which showcased the sunflower were ideal for an early summer wedding, and were expertly created by Gwendoline's Floristry.

The ceremony itself was sweet, heart felt and full of laughter - the perfect reflection of Laura and Joe as a couple. After a must have confetti throw, everyone retired to the field for garden games and canapés, where the bride and groom went head to head in a game of lawn Jenga. Here we also took some brilliant group photos, before I stole the happy couple away for some stunning private pictures.

I must also say, that throughout the day, Laura and Joe had hired me a partner in crime, a great videographer by the name of Rich from Above Arcadia. What they didn't know, was that myself and Rich had actually attended university together studying film - having not seen each other since, neither of us was aware the other had entered the world of weddings so it was lovely surprise reunion!

During the reception and into the evening Laura and Joe had live music to entertain their guests - on saxophone Molley Docksey and the band The Salvations - both of which went down a storm.

We had hoped to get some lovely golden hour pictures, however the weather did not behave, but not ones to let an opportunity slide by, we instead took some beautifully atmospheric stormy pictures to end the day. Not long after, I left the newly married couple with the party in full swing. The sounds of music and laughter as I left the wedding was the perfect end to a perfect day.

Thank you again Laura and Joe - I had so much fun getting to know you both- from the first meeting, to our fab engagement shoot (check it out here), to the just amazing wedding day itself. Your day was a lesson in what a great wedding day should look like - romantic, fun, relaxed and a reflection of you as a couple. Wishing you the best life together as a beautiful family. Annie x
